PIERS Technical requirements

The PIERS Online application requires that your browser be java, javascript and cookies enabled. Your popup blocker needs to be disabled for this website to allow the viewing window to expand to the entire available screen space. It is recommended to add this site: http://www.piers.landservices.sa.gov.au to the sites exempt from popup blocking. On Internet Explorer, this is available under the Tools - Popup Blocker menu.

We recommend the use of Internet Explorer 5 or above. PIERS ONLINE also works on IE4, Netscape 4.x and Netscape 6. However, we do not recommend the use of Netscape 4.x for accessing PIERS.

PIERS Online has a free online image viewer (viewONE) that can be installed as part of the load process. To use the viewer, you may need to install the free download of the Java runtime, available from www.java.com. Your browser security must allow scripting of Java applets. It is not essential to install the viewer as plan images can also be emailed using the 'E-mail me this search' link and viewed using your own image software.

The plan images are in TIFF Group 4 Fax format. You may have QuickTime installed as your default TIF image viewer and are unable to display these images. A recommended quick fix is to:

  • Attempt to display an image
  • Right click in the blank Image Viewer window
  • Go to the QuickTime properties and un-associate the TIF file type from QuickTime

Another method is to change the application that automatically opens TIF file types. On Microsoft Windows this is achieved by opening My Computer, click on View, scroll down to Folder Options and click on File Types. Under File Type Details you can change the default application for TIF files.

A minimum screen resolution of 800x600, 1028x768 or more is recommended.

The site has been tested to work with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP operating systems.

PIERS first time users - important information

Once you have logged on to PIERS Online, there are a number of steps to load the PIERS application so that you can view, print and save plan images.

  1. Click on the Go PIERS Online button to start loading. The next page explains the requirements and will not appear the next time you start if you leave the check box ticked.
  2. Click on the Launch PIERS button. The PIERS page will start loading. For some users, this step may be prevented by 'Popup Blocking' software that needs to be temporarily turned off.
  3. Click on the continue link in the Conditions on Use of PIERS data box. You must agree to the conditions each time to complete the loading process.
  4. The first time this page is opened, a TIFF viewer application (viewONE) is down loaded to your PC that will allow you to view, print and save plan images. This may take up to 2 minutes to download if your Internet service is accessed using a dial-up connection. When the down load is completed, a window labelled Security Warning will appear to prompt you to install the viewer.
  5. Click Yes to install the viewer.

This completes the load process. There should a line of greyed out icons below the Print Visible button indicating that the viewer has been installed successfully. If you are unable to install the image viewer, you can still use the 'E-mail me this search' link to get full resolution images.

Customer Reference

A Set Customer Reference link is provided on the main plan viewing window to allow a reference to be recorded with each purchase. Once the reference is set, it will be recorded with each subsequent purchase until it is changed to a new reference.

If you forget to set it before purchasing, you can 'purchase' the plan again to update the reference without being charged more than once for the same plan in the same session.

Information Available

PIERS Online provides downloads of most of the plan series available from the Lands Titles Office as well as locality plans for Permanent Survey Marks. It does not include Filed Plans numbered 100,000 and above. These are available from the Product Ordering facility on Property Assist.

Searching for survey references based on Crown Land parcel identifiers is also available.

Help is available on the site to assist you to use the search facilities and down load images. Refer to the Glossary provided on this site for more information on the terms used.
